The culinary arts, down the toilet

This morning, my friend informed me about this utterly important trend piece, worthy of immediate recognition. As a follower of all things random, I've actually come upon this strangeness before, but this article elucidates the intricacies of this new themed restaurant quite well.

Part of a chain of toilet-based restaurants, this Taiwanese favorite, has cheap food, served under the subtle ambiance of gas station bathroom lighting. Well, not exactly, supposedly, it's a lot cleaner and more sanitary. Decked out from the seating to the plates, this restaurant is the perfect combination of bathroom and kitchen. Mmmm.

"Every customer sits on a stylish acrylic toilet (lid down) designed with images of roses, seashells or Renaissance paintings. Everyone dines at a glass table with a sink underneath. The servers bring your meal atop a mini toilet bowl (quite convenient, as it brings the food closer to your mouth), you sip drinks from your own plastic urinal (a souvenir), and soft-swirl ice cream arrives for dessert atop a dish shaped like a squat toilet."

"It's supposed to shock and confuse the senses," says Modern Toilet manager Chen Min-kuang.

After the first course, everyone communally goes #1, saving #2 for dessert. Not really, but it's pretty strange as is. No? I have to say, I'd really like to not think about food coming out as it's going in, it just makes a meal less appetizing.

In my opinion, these themes have gone a little too far. Just to up the gross-out ante. With Buns & Guns in Lebanon, Fake dead bodies in japan with "blood sauce", eating in a coffin in Ukraine, there's a point where it goes from innovative to just plain creepy. You can check out more of the strange and appalling here.
