CNN just informed me that 1 in 5 kids before preschool age are obese. How is this even possible? What are they feeding these children? Here's the breakdown.
Using body mass index, they found that 31.2 percent of American Indian/Native Alaskans, 22 percent of Hispanics, 20.8 percent of blacks, 15.9 percent of whites and 12.8 percent of Asians were obese.
Diseases commonly seen in 40- or 50-year-olds are presenting in 6- and 7-year-olds. Obese children are developing type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease and musculoskeletal problems, which occur because their bodies can't carry that much weight, doctors said.
The stats are really sad. I remember reading babysitters club when I was little and thinking how strange it was that Stacy had diabetes. Now it seems like every other child will be diabetic at an early age. How is that these stats just get worse and worse every year?
This is a sad report...and your graphic gives me chills. One thing is that it's pretty expensive to eat healthy these days...fresh is better but it costs more. And maybe it's laziness. I'm seeing a lot of heavy people ...especially in the health care profession, where we do a lot of work. You'd think they would be the ones to set a good example. Off the couch, back away from the computer, and go take a walk, people!
ReplyDeleteSaid as I read this. I am lazing around by the computer. Perhaps, when it's sunny.
